Ricky Gumbrecht is an abstract artist based in the Bay Area. While primarily focused on abstracts, she creates a diverse range of art on canvas or wood panel utilizing elementary forms, all with sensual texture and strong color.
Born in a small town in western Germany near the French border, Ricky was naturally drawn to the arts as a child. Almost without noticing she developed an artistic eye, pulling on her experiences in a small town while expanding her horizons with travel both to the seaside and as an exchange student in France.
After moving to California, Ricky rediscovered her passion for art. Joining The Pacific Art League, she trained and developed her unique artistic style. Utilizing an experimental methodology, Ricky produces a constellation of colors and forms to emerge on the canvas. At times this approach takes her towards figurative compositions and even dream-like scenes. Most of the time, her work is decidedly abstract, staging plays and sometimes dramas of color and form. Ricky often utilizes transfer techniques to integrate natural materials, found objects, and even industrial artifacts into her compositions.
